Projekt MefCO2: obnovitelné zdroje a spaliny z elektrárny vyrábějí metanol

MefCO2 project uses waste carbon dioxide from coal-fired power plant in Essen, Germany , owned by STEAG GmbH. 1MWelektrolyzér Hydogenics utilizing the principle Proton exchange membrane (PEM) , is able to produce 200 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour using electricity continuously supplied from renewable sources. This hydrogen during the catalytic reaction, combined with the carbon dioxide obtained from coal fired flue gas to form methanol ( methyl alcohol ) . This is the raw material in a chemical production with very wide application , such as a universal solvent , fuel additive and antifreeze, or as feedstock for the production of complex chemicals ( such as formaldehyde , formic acid or acetic acid).
